‘Under Cover’ is a column that ran monthly in School Library Journal from 2005 to 2013. The photo portraits were all original assignments. A collaboration between photographer, the author, and myself (the art director) was an integral part of each project to ensure that the author, through props, pose, and/or wardrobe, referenced their book, and that the photos fit in with the look of the column. Most of the time, the authors embraced the opportunity to have some fun with their material, and often the results were inspired!
